the Teacher Training Program for the Radiant Child Yoga Program
(RCYP)
Radiant Child Yoga Program (RCYP) is a certificate program
for teaching yoga teachers, school teachers, parents and all
others who are interested in learning how to teach children
yoga. The RCYP courses have qualified as CEUs for public school
systems, and as credit hours for RYT certification through
Yoga Alliance. RCYP, was developed by Shakta Kaur Khalsa, whose
vision of sharing the benefits of yoga with children all around
the world was the creative spark that initiated the program.
Teacher training includes:
- yoga and meditation for children of all ages
- how to make yoga fun for children
- class structuring and marketing tips

Shakta Kaur Khalsa began practicing yoga in 1972, and has
been teaching Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan since
1976. She is an IKYTA certified Kundalini Yoga instructor,
an AMS certified Montessori educator, and a member of Yoga
Alliance and Mid-Atlantic Yoga Association.
She has authored several books: Fly
Like A Butterfly: Yoga For Children, The
Five Fingered Family, Kundalini
Yoga, KISS
Guide to Yoga, and Yoga
For Women. She has produced several musical CDs as well: Deeply Relax and Meditate, Women's
Yoga Music, Sounds of India, and the latest offerings: Happy and Cozy, Radiant Child Music.
Shakta lives in Herndon, Virginia with her husband and son.

Other relevant facts about using the Radiant Child Yoga program in Schools
Course was approved for CEUs in Las Vegas NV schools, in the statewide STARS program in Washington State, and in Puget Sound public schools. In fact, anytime the course was submitted for CEUs, it met with approval.
Has been accepted as CEUs for Yoga Alliance credit and for course hours at the highest (500- RYT) level.
Shakta was the featured presenter at the Long Island Montessori Directors conference Nov. 04, and taught a mini version of RCYP to the directors.
RCYP was sponsored in Hong Kong by the Heep Hong Society, an organization with 100 centers that work with children with Autism. Shakta presented RCYP to 35 attendees from HHS (many who did not have former yoga training) and the course was open to the public as well. Physical Therapists reported healthy responses from the children to incorporating yoga into their therapy.
RCYP was invited as a special track at the Head Start Convention in Orlando FL April 04
RCYP was presented in Johannesburg and Capetown South Africa, with a special emphasis on working with children with HIV and AIDs in April of 05.
Shakta will be a featured presenter at The Montessori Foundation West Coast conference in April 07, presenting children’s yoga in a Montessori environment.
To date, at least 600 RCYP participants, are working with special needs children (DSI, ADHD, Autism and CP). The response has been more than positive, with teachers and therapists consistently reporting dramatic changes in physical, emotional, and mental abilities of the children. |
